When shopping for a new carpet you have a variety of options to choose from including different styles, fibres, piles and more. Fibres are what make a carpet, and they play a major role in how a carpet looks and performs in your home. Carpet fibres can be resistant to staining, easy to clean, hypoallergenic, or even energy efficient. Before purchasing a new carpet you should take into consideration how you use the space and how durable of a fibre you need. For households with children or pets, we suggest customers consider how their family lives on their current carpet so they know what to expect when looking for a new one.

Types of fibres used in carpets include nylon, polyester, triexta, olefin/polypropylene, and wool.

Types of Carpet Fibres

Nylon is the most common and popular carpet fibre option because of its durability and resistance to staining. It is great for homes with children and pets and is long-lasting.

Polyester is less expensive than nylon but features some of the same durability. It is comparable to the durability of nylon and is also great for homes with children and pets.

Triexta is an inherently durable fibre. These fibres are becoming a more popular option because unlike nylon, they are already resistant to staining and do not need to be treated.

Olefin/polypropylene fibres are perfect for decorative rugs and carpets.

Wool is a popular and natural fibre that comes from sheep. Homeowners love wool because it is easy to clean, affordable, and comes in a variety of styles.
